Series Format
The Skyline Series is a season long collection of amateur-only tournaments (currently only Pittsburgh, PA). The series is based on 2-person pairs competing against the field of other 2-person pairs in a variety of formats, primarily playing a Scramble. In each event, pairs compete for medalist honors and win points based on where they finish in the event (tied to the specific pair, not split between players). At the end of the season, prizes are awarded to the pairs that amass the most points.
The Skyline Series also has a team component based off the pairs. More information on teams can be found below
Tournament Format
The primary format of tournaments in The Skyline Series will leverage a 2-person scramble. In this format, on every hole, each player in the pair hits a tee shot. The pair then decides which ball to play from and then each player will make a stroke from the new spot. The pattern repeats until the hole is completed. No minimums are required for the number of shots used by each player and the pair records a single score for the hole.
Pairs will play with another pair (from another team, if the pair is part of a team) and keep each other’s scores like standard tournaments using Moment Golf’s live scoring app (web-based).
Team Format
Pairs can join forces with new or old friends to form teams and compete for additional prizes and points. Teams must have at least 4 players and each team can field up to 6 players (3 pairs) per event. Pairs playing for the team do not need to be the same each event in the series, but each player may only play for one team per region.
If the team has more than 3 pairs available for an event, extra pairs can register to play as a solo pair and compete for pair prizes and points.
Pairs competing for the team will also qualify for pair prizes and points.
Team Scoring
Team scoring is based on the individual scores of the pairs playing for the team. Team scores equal the two lowest scores from the pairs summed together. If a team of 6 (3 pairs) has scores of -4, -2, and -1, the team’s score will be -6 with the -1 score not counting towards the overall score. If a team only has 2 pairs, then no scores are dropped.
Although the third score is not used in the team score, these pairs are still important as the best third score is the first tie breaker in the team competition, if both teams have 3 pairs. (This happens more than you think)
Side Games
What’s a casual tournament without a few fun side games. In every full course event in The Skyline Series, the following side games will be available (included and optional):
Included: Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin, $10,000 Hole-in-One Challenge
Optional: Traditional Skins (cash preference, Venmo second)
To comply with USGA rules on amateur status and Federal laws, players will be capped to $1000 total winnings per event (excluding the Hole-In-One Challenge and optional skins) and may receive a 1099 should they win more than $600 over the course of the Series.
